COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Maine Maple Weekend returns for its 42nd season this Saturday as over 110 maple producers from Sebago, Dayton and Wells open their sugarhouses for tours, taste tests and syrup making. The event runs over the weekend that includes the fourth Sunday in March (when trees start to give sap) and offers local visitors a look at the traditional syrup production process. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) tested a well at Mere Creek Golf Course in Brunswick and found PFAS in the drinking water at levels five times above what is safe. The DEP sent a letter to the Navy and asked for nearby wells to be sampled to help find the source of the contamination. WGAN
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Portland officials are reviewing a plan to raise the minimum wage from 15 to 20 dollars an hour by 2028—public comment will be heard by the housing and economic development committee next Tuesday. FOX23
- ➤ Starting Monday, work on the overpass at Exit 4 in South Portland will cause lane reductions and detours for motorists traveling from Veterans Memorial Bridge to I-295 and Route 1 as MDOT rebuilds the ramp to add southbound access — the $12.4 million project to ease congestion on Broadway is expected to last until fall 2026. - ➤ Peter Beauchemin from Berwick wrote a letter saying Maine is failing its homeless people when his group met with local and state officials in Portland and got no help. He noted that officials ignored a sleeping homeless man at a meeting+he warned that many lives have been lost due to this neglect. Portland Press Herald

- ➤ The Maine Black Bears advanced to the Hockey East semifinals with a 7-1 win over UMass Lowell in Orono as their postseason play began on Sunday — they will face Northeastern on Thursday at TD Garden in Boston. WMTW
