- ➤ On St. Patrick's Day, dozens of volunteers jumped into icy waters at East End Beach to raise money for the Portland Firefighters Children's Burn Foundation, continuing a 17-year tradition that has raised over $375,000. - ➤ Portland man Keon Gaston was arrested after he threw a rock through a car window on Chestnut and Oxford streets on Sunday around 12:10 p.m.—he allegedly had 11.6 grams of cocaine and a stolen handgun on him. FOX23

- ➤ Portland City Council met Monday night to consider creating a social housing task force to explore if the city could act as a public developer for affordable housing. The council also approved a sale agreement with Lambert Woods North LLC for a 4.8-acre lot at 622 Auburn Street — where 72 mixed-size apartments will be built for families earning less than 60 percent of the area median income and remain affordable for 99 years. - ➤ Sen. Angus King and Rep. Chellie Pingree sent letters to USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins asking why the agency cut $1 billion from local food programs that connect schools, food banks and community groups with local producers. They requested answers on when and how the cuts will be reversed and asked for a reply by Friday and April 4 — concerns raised as rising food costs affect Maine families. Portland Press Herald
