CRIME NEWS

  • Portland police are searching for Christenia Kangas, 20 — a Maine College of Art & Design student — who was last seen at 3 p.m. Friday on campus and has not contacted her family since March 13 as her family asks anyone with information to call 207-874-8575.  Portland Press Herald
  • Police executed a search warrant at Franklin Towers at 211 Cumberland Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Sunday—arresting Noorhussein Ibrahim of Westbrook, Shane Leroux of South Portland, and Christopher Alan of South Portland—and seized 68 grams of crack cocaine and 258 grams of cocaine as part of an ongoing drug investigation.  WGME
  • Police are investigating a stabbing that took place Sunday morning outside 45 Portland Street (Dyer’s Variety Store) at around 6:30 a.m. where a 45-year-old man was treated at Maine Medical Center and witnesses were interviewed to develop a person of interest.  WGAN

CULTURE NEWS

  • A superior court judge ruled on March 26th that the city and the Portland Museum of Art can tear down the former Children's Museum at 142 Free St for a $100 million expansion — a project aimed at boosting local businesses. Greater Portland Landmarks had sued last year to preserve the historic site, but the appeal was denied.  WMTW
  • Portland summer events include CiderFeast on May 11 at Oxbow Blending and Bottling where more than 15 cider samples and food trucks will serve guests—The Black Crowes perform on July 29 at Maine Savings Amphitheater in Bangor, and on Aug. 9 comedian John Mulaney headlines at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland with fellow SNL alum Fred Armisen.   Portland Press Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • State health officials said that on March 19, a child who tested positive for influenza B died, marking Maine’s first flu-related pediatric death this season—flu activity remains high with cases reported in every county.  WMTW

SPORTS NEWS

  • South Portland High senior Marina Bassett was named Varsity Maine Girls Hockey Player of the Year after leading her Portland co-op team to the regional championship game — she scored 58 goals and 17 assists in 21 games and will continue her hockey career at Rivier University next year.  Portland Press Herald
