- ➤ Bay Club Fitness in downtown will close on May 31 after 36 years due to a drop in membership and rising rent. Owner Tracy Argondizza, who began at the club in 2000, said she will shift to real estate and local music gigs. Portland Press Herald

- ➤ The Maine Historical Society in Portland is showcasing 'Pathways to Freedom: Maine Stories of the American Revolution,' an exhibit that shows Maine's role during the Revolutionary War. The display runs through Dec. 31. WGME
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ 8 Investigates compared prices for a dozen eggs, five apples, three pounds of rice, three heads of broccoli and a package of chicken at Walmart, Shaw's and Hannaford in Southern Maine. Prices were $20.42 at Walmart, $18.82 at Shaw's and $18.01 at Hannaford (the lowest), while last week Aldi remained the most affordable option. WMTW
- ➤ MOFGA sent a letter urging Hannaford to buy more Maine-grown produce after reporting highlighted a carrot shortage in local stores. Hannaford said it works with local farmers (including at least three Maine farms when in season) and has invited MOFGA to discuss additional supply opportunities. WMTW

- ➤ United 4 Childcare opened a new child care center on Gannett Drive in South Portland on April 2 with about 100 children present at the ribbon cutting. The center will expand to 24-hour care in coming years — the first to offer round-the-clock service in Maine. FOX23
- ➤ A proposed supplemental state budget would raise Maine's minimum starting teacher salary from $40,000 to $45,000 if passed, with planned raises to $47,500 and $50,000 over the next two years (educators say current pay does not cover rising living costs). FOX23
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Maine lawmakers approved LD 1730 on Thursday to let customers install plug-in solar systems that connect to wall outlets to lower electric bills amid costs. If signed by Gov. - ➤ Maine released its 10-year Wildlife Action Plan that identifies 721 at-risk species (up from 378 in 2015) after a two-year collaboration with state agencies and conservation groups.
