- ➤ On Wednesday before 4:15 p.m., a 29 year old man named James Davis III fatally shot his 47 year old mother while she was driving on King Road at the Route 9 intersection in Sabattus—he then fired at passing vehicles, killing another woman and injuring two men before taking his own life. WMTW
- ➤ Portland police said that on Wednesday night near Irving on Commercial Street a 33-year-old suspect—Seth McCallum—wielded a knife, shouted racial slurs and threatened a victim after carjacking a vehicle and slashing two tires; he is out on bail while facing charges. WGME
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Maine’s scenic trails attract more Mainers outdoors as the snow melts and days grow brighter according to Portland Trails Executive Director Jon Kachmar. He said residents are expected to explore these picturesque paths soon to enjoy fresh air. WGME
- ➤ Harpswell is seeking answers about PFAS pollution after a firefighting foam spill last summer at the former Brunswick Naval Air Station — the town board asked Maine DEP to test waters and remove any remaining foam. DEP Commissioner Melanie Loyzim said on March 6 that the U.S. Navy will handle water testing, while the EPA will require a revised plan and lawmakers consider bills to limit PFAS use. - ➤ Portland Hearts of Pine rallied for a 1-1 draw and won by penalty kicks on Wednesday night at Don Roux Field in Lewiston—drawing 3,002 fans. The team, which played with 10 men after Azaad Liadi was sent off, saw Jake Keegan tie the game in overtime before Evan Southern secured the win with the final kick. Portland Press Herald
