CRIME NEWS

  • Maine State Police are asking the public for help with a 1979 homicide in Winslow where Thomas Huntley died in a suspicious house fire on April 12th, 1979—workers on a garbage route discovered the blaze.  FOX23
  • Maine State Police are asking the public for help in investigating the 1979 case when Thomas Huntley died in a suspicious house fire on April 12th in Winslow. Fire officials reported that the living room burned very hot and quickly — any tips should be shared with the Major Crimes Unit at 207-624-7143 — as the investigation continues.  WGME

CULTURE NEWS

  • Record Store Day took place on April 12 in Maine as all Bull Moose stores opened at 8 a.m.—music fans began lining up at Scarborough at 11 p.m. the night before for limited-edition releases and promotional products. Everything unsold on Saturday went on sale online today.  WMTW
  • Paul Beach from Kennebunk says the Portland Museum of Art can keep the old front wall — building a glass structure behind it — to preserve the former children’s museum instead of tearing it down.  Portland Press Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • Portland police reported an alarming number of overdoses that resulted in two deaths since 8:00 p.m. Thursday night and 129 overdoses with six deaths recorded so far this year compared to 167 overdoses in the same period last year—police urged Portlanders to access free Narcan available at pharmacies and through public health department training.  WGME
  • Maine lawmakers must work together to pass Rep. Anne-Marie Mastraccio's bills—one to start an All Maine Health Program and one to study a plan for universal health care—that aim to protect Mainers from cuts in FEMA, NOAA, and Medicaid funding; the proposals seek to keep our state’s health care safe amid changes in national policy.  Portland Press Herald
