- ➤ Lynda Hathaway, the longtime director of Troubh Ice Arena’s skating program, died on April 20 at 81. She coached young beginners and NHL prospects over four decades and was remembered for her caring teaching style. Portland Press Herald
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The FBI report found that Mainers lost over $31 million to internet scams in 2024—a 65% rise from 2023—with victims aged 60 and older shouldering nearly $13 million in losses and an average loss of $14,725 per report. FOX23
- ➤ State and local police are searching for Ryan-Eric Richardson, 35, from Lewiston who was reported missing by his family on April 17 after he was last seen walking near 959 Washington St wearing a blue Nike sweatshirt, black jogger pants, and green Nike Air Force 1 sneakers (he is 6 feet tall, weighs about 190 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes). - ➤ Today, Maine Wildlife Park in Gray is open with a fresh new look as construction of the entrance nears completion. Park officials said they will add new signs and features to enhance the learning experience + the park houses 30 native wildlife species, gardens, trails, picnic areas, and a museum with gates opening at 9:30 a.m. FOX23
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials identified the remains of a World War II soldier—U.S. Army Pvt. Willard D. Merrill from Dover-Foxcroft—on August 19th, 2024 using dental, anthropological, and DNA tests after he survived the Bataan Death March but died as a prisoner on November 14th, 1942. Merrill will be buried in Dover-Foxcroft in June as plans move forward to honor his service. WMTW
- ➤ Senator Brad Farrin proposed a bill to add automated speed traps in highway work zones to protect workers if passed — cameras would mail warnings to drivers who exceed the speed limit by 11 miles per hour — with a pilot program set for 2026. Some critics worry the system may invade privacy when work zones are empty. FOX23
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Health experts and police say meth overdose cases are rising in Maine because there is no approved medicine to reverse a meth overdose—officers are now directing users to behavioral health services. Maine DHHS will fund pilot programs to try new treatments for stimulant use as many users mix meth with other drugs. WMTW
