- ➤ Residents gathered at 18 sites, including Capisic Pond Park in Rosemont, on Saturday for an Earth Day cleanup hosted by Portland Parks Conservancy & the City of Portland. Volunteers of all ages worked together to keep parks and public areas clean. Portland Press Herald
- ➤ Young's Greenhouse held its Annual Spring Event (a free community day with games, a scavenger hunt, and food) on Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to noon in South Paris. Expert Katherine Young advised planting pansies and violas early to add lasting color this spring. WMTW

- ➤ Bird songs fill the parks as thrushes and other species return to breed this spring. The Rangeley Birding Festival will run June 5-7 in Rangeley (with guided hikes and river paddling) and gives locals a chance to enjoy nature and learn about wildlife. Portland Press Herald

- ➤ The Togus VA rehab center opened in Chelsea yesterday to offer long-term residential treatment for veterans facing substance use disorder, PTSD and depression. The 15,000 sqft facility provides tailored treatment plans including counseling + medication management. FOX23

- ➤ Cheverus opened its season on Saturday afternoon with a 10-0 win over Thornton Academy using strong pitching and timely hitting. Addison DeRoche struck out 12 in five no-hit innings while rallies in the third + fifth innings lifted the team. Portland Press Herald
- ➤ Franklin Arias (20) hit a pinch hit two run homer in the ninth on Saturday to lift the Sea Dogs to a 4 to 3 win at Hadlock Field, marking his seventh home run in his last nine games. Portland Press Herald
- ➤ After an overtime win in game one last night, the Mariners lost a physical game 3 to 2 to the Adirondack Thunder after a penalty gave them a power play—tying the series 1 to 1 and setting game three for Wednesday in New York. WMTW
- ➤ Noah Carpenter, a former Leavitt star who won a top high school award, played linebacker for UMaine during the spring game at Alfond Stadium in Orono Saturday and will lead the Black Bears starting Aug. 27 at Towson (he made 32 tackles last season). Portland Press Herald
- ➤ Portland's Hearts of Pine earned a 2-2 tie on Saturday night after Ollie Wright scored a late goal from outside the box in a USL Cup game in Mount Vernon (New York). The team will return home to Fitzpatrick Stadium next Saturday at 5 p.m. to face New York Cosmos. Portland Press Herald
- ➤ Chad Epperson, the winningest Sea Dogs manager, will become the interim third-base coach for the Boston Red Sox Saturday after the team fired manager Alex Cora and five staffers + he led Portland for five seasons +, replacing Kyle Hudson. Portland Press Herald
