CRIME NEWS

  • Portland Police warned residents after 7 suspected overdoses occurred in less than 20 hours on Sunday at 3 p.m., advising that drugs may be contaminated and urging users not to take them alone (naloxone is available at many local pharmacies).  WMTW

CULTURE NEWS

  • Two longtime friends hosted a craft social at Maine Studio Works Sunday afternoon, where over three dozen locals made jewelry, flower crowns and collages while a live DJ played upbeat music+ set a club-like atmosphere; organizers will hold more events soon+ offer crafting supplies and nonalcoholic beverages for $25 tickets.  Portland Press Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Mills proclaimed the third week of April as Wildfire Awareness Week, urging residents to prevent wildfires and safely manage outdoor burns. Maine Forest Ranger Malcolm MacDonald said most fires start from unattended campfires and brush, so staying alert remains essential — even after Sunday marked the official end.  FOX23
  • The National Weather Service office in Gray is leading Severe Weather Preparedness Week to help residents spot and report dangerous weather; each day highlights topics from alert terminology to tornado and flash flood safety.   • Mainers can take advantage of a quiet seasonal window before the summer rush begins.   • After a shakeup in the Red Sox organization, Kyle Sasala (35) was named acting manager of the Sea Dogs Sunday after manager Alex Cora was fired and Chad Epperson was promoted to interim third base coach in Boston.   • Maine native Jayden Flaker signed with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent after the 2026 draft and will attend rookie minicamp (he played for North Carolina Central and the University of Memphis) where he will compete for a roster spot.  WMTW
