COMMUNITY NEWS

  • CBS13 and FOX 23 hosted their annual Shred-A-Thon event Friday from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the studios at 81 Northport Drive in Portland — residents brought old documents for on-site shredding to help guard against identity theft.  FOX23
  • Neighborhood associations in Portland organized over nine spring clean-up events to clear parks, streets, and public spaces. One group cleaned Preble Street on Earth Day, and a citywide event runs today with cleanup kits from the Sustainability Office + Public Works picking up trash at designated spots.  West End News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, the Seashore Trolley Museum opens its 86th season with trolley rides along a 3.7-mile route on the old Atlantic Shore Line Railway and outdoor exhibits. The museum offers Maine Day pricing (residents pay $2.07 and youth 16 and younger enter free) along with special events planned for May.  Portland Press Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • York County Commissioner Justin Chenette was named Maine County Commissioner of the Month for May 2025 by Spirit of America Foundation’s Maine Chapter—honoring his public service. Elected in 2022 and previously serving as vice chair, he led efforts for substance use recovery and coastal protection using American Rescue Plan funds.  Portland Press Herald

  • Fourteen students from Edward Little High School were taken to hospitals after feeling ill on a school bus near Fairfield on Thursday and reporting a suspected antifreeze leak—officials confirmed the bus had a small leak and that all students have since been released.  FOX23
