COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Biddeford held a ceremony on Friday to honor local veterans marking 50 years since the end of the Vietnam War, and the event featured a presentation of colors and military music by Biddeford High School's band plus a speech by former Marine Captain Don Chretien recalling his service and lessons learned from the conflict. The presentation served as a tribute to those who served and a reminder of the enduring impact of the war.  WGAN
  • Police departments from Cape Elizabeth, South Portland, and Scarborough teamed with Project Grace — a nonprofit that organized a tri-community food drive collecting 300-400 pounds of nonperishable donations distributed to Judy's Pantry, South Portland Food Cupboard and the Scarborough Food Pantry to help families facing food insecurities.  WGME

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A tractor-trailer crashed on Interstate 95 near mile marker 30 on Saturday morning, blocking two lanes and causing delays along the Maine Turnpike near Arundel — state police asked drivers to avoid the area — and it is not yet known if anyone was hurt.  Portland Press Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Bobbing on the waves, high-tech buoys in the Gulf of Maine collect weather and ocean data to help mariners and scientists stay safe while tracking long-term changes. The University of Maine runs six buoys that send data by satellite—helping officials warn of storms and plan coastal responses.  WMTW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers heard public testimony on three bills that would require a photo ID to vote and change absentee ballot rules in Maine. Senator Jeff Timberlake said his bill would offer free IDs while critics warn the proposals might make voting harder—voters will also decide a voter ID question on the November ballot—adding to the debate.  FOX23

  • Portland Hearts of Pine will host One Knoxville today at 6 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Stadium—about 5,500 fans are expected—to open their USL League One home season, and the game will air on NESN and ESPN.  Portland Press Herald
