  • Insomnia Cookies will open its first Maine store on Saturday—May 31—at 53 Wharf Street in Old Port and will offer warm cookies throughout the day and into the early morning.   • Auburn police arrested Stephanie Lockhart of Lewiston after a traffic stop on West Auburn Road when officers discovered fentanyl & crack, and she now faces charges of aggravated trafficking, unlawful possession, refusing to submit to arrest, falsifying physical evidence, and violating conditions of release.  FOX23

CULTURE NEWS

  • The local dating show Maine Bachelorette is streaming on YouTube. In the show, six suitors face off in challenges—ax throwing and thrift shopping—to win a date with Daphne, with creator Teagan Wright explaining the contest brings a fresh twist to local romance.  WGME

EDUCATION NEWS

  • York High School's superintendent said early retirement buyouts did not attract enough volunteers, so two teachers were laid off—since student numbers did not need both positions and the $20,000 buyout did not meet demands for better health benefits and a 5.5 percent raise. The decision was made after several staff chose the retirement offer.  FOX23

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The summer season in Portland has around 15 more days of above-normal heat and an average temperature rise of about 2.6 degrees since 1970—coastal areas from Portland to central Maine recorded increases of 2 to 3 degrees and forecasts expect warmer trends this summer.  WGME
