CRIME NEWS

  • U.S. Border Patrol agents stopped 31-year-old Nathan Paul Curran-McQuade in September 2024 when he illegally crossed from Canada by ATV in Caswell and, after they found about 14 grams of meth, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison with a concurrent 100-day sentence and three years of supervised release.  WGME

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Maine’s only medical school has opened a state-of-the-art facility on its Portland campus featuring modern simulation classrooms and labs to train 200 osteopathic medicine students per year—many of whom are expected to help address the urgent primary care shortage.  FOX23

  • The House passed a bill on May 22 that cuts clean energy tax credits—credits that fuel Maine jobs and investments in renewable energy. Locals now urge Sen. Collins and Sen. King to block the cuts before the Senate votes on the House budget version.  Portland Press Herald
