BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hannaford in Portland recalled select Nature’s Promise Veggie Chips multi-packs and one oz. bags on Friday after a supplier alerted the chain to a possible undeclared wheat allergen — customers should return the product to the store for a refund.  WGME
  • Portland is offering interest-free loans to downtown businesses to improve storefronts — up to $20K is available to tenants and commercial property owners with current leases. Applications will be reviewed by the Portland Development Corporation from a $250K fund set aside to attract quality businesses.  WGME

  • High school seniors from southern Maine are named the 2025 Grads to Watch for achievements in school, sports and art; they overcame challenges like language barriers and family troubles. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Maine coastal homeowners can now raise sea walls by up to two feet to help protect against storm damage and rising sea levels — the governor signed an emergency bill in Augusta that is effective immediately — with the law also applying to coastal municipalities.  FOX23
  • A proposed bill is advancing at the State House to reform Maine's EMS system amid worker shortages and rising costs. The bill will create a permanent EMS commission and study ways to boost regional teamwork — it advanced out of the Judiciary Committee this week.  WGME
  • Maine homeowners along the coast can now raise their sea walls by up to two feet to protect against storm damage—Governor signed an emergency bill effective immediately that applies to both private property and municipal walls to counter rising sea levels and severe storms.  WGME
  • Some Maine drivers received a letter from the Secretary of State’s office informing them that their new license plates were misprinted due to a system error — they should continue using their current plates and will get corrected ones by mail in August. Drivers may keep the misprinted plates or return them to a local municipal office or BMV branch.  WMTW
