ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Crews responded at 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday to a fire at two antique buses parked side-by-side on St. John Street, and the flames spread to a nearby building's exterior before damage was limited; the State Fire Marshal's Office is now investigating the cause.  WGME

CULTURE NEWS

  • Washington Baths in Portland is a Finnish-style sauna with hot and cold pools and a small restaurant that opened in 2021. The plain concrete building by architect Kiel Moe shows a strong focus on modern design—drawing on Finnish tradition to offer a unique bathhouse experience.  Portland Press Herald
  • Hearts of Pine will cover half the cost of a Hearts-themed tattoo at Dark Harbor Tattoo on Saturday—supporters have already sold out the event to show their lasting loyalty to the club.  FOX23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Scarborough committee voted to delay changes to the Animal Control Ordinance and beach leash laws until December. Councilors said the delay will give park rangers time to gather summer dog data and allow the community survey results to guide future decisions.  Portland Press Herald
  • The Maine Legislature advanced a bill that will require grocery stores and college cafeterias to donate unused food or compost it while supporters urge Governor Janet Mills to sign it. If signed, the law will join similar measures in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont and Rhode Island to reduce food waste.  WGME
  • Maine is one of 27 states and Washington, D.C. suing 23andMe after the company said it would sell genetic data to a third party, saying the sale might put customer privacy in danger—attorneys general are asking a judge to decide that customers own their own data.  WGME
