- ➤ Maine Solar Solutions in Brunswick warned that it may face layoffs if Congress finalizes a draft budget reconciliation that ends federal tax credits by year’s end, reducing the main incentive for new residential solar installations. - ➤ Using Maine’s Freedom of Access Act, investigators obtained a final report that found hazing, bullying and alleged sexual misconduct on the Mt. Ararat High School boys hockey team during incidents in November and December — one incident involved a student pulling down another's pants, grabbing his throat and pushing him into another's groin, which led to the season being canceled and the coach resigning. - ➤ A local nonprofit is uncovering Maine’s hidden slavery history by launching an online database that lists more than 2,000 enslaved people before 1800—its project will help teach a fuller story of our state. Founder Vana Carmona began this mission 12 years ago and now also offers walking cemetery tours at former slave burial sites in Portland. WGME

- ➤ A study by the Environmental Integrity Project found that Maine’s ND Paper mill in Rumford and Sappi Somerset mill in Skowhegan were among the dirtiest in the country due to burning tires and other fuels—emissions that nearly reached those of some oil refineries when biogenic fuels were added.
