  • On Sunday, tens of thousands of oysters were shucked at the Maine Oyster Festival in Freeport despite rainy weather, and thousands of visitors enjoyed free admission. Organizers held The Big Shuck competition at noon—a fast contest to see who could shuck oysters fastest—and vendors taught attendees to shuck at home while $3 tickets were exchanged for oysters.  WMTW

  • Police are asking for help finding missing 35-year-old Jennifer Titus—a white female last seen around midnight Thursday in Cape Elizabeth wearing an olive-colored shirt and cutoff denim shorts.  WMTW
  • A November 2024 cybersecurity breach at Hannaford affected over 2.2 million people, including 95,000 Mainers, after hackers accessed personal data like names, addresses, and bank details, and Ahold Delhaize notified customers on Thursday and will offer credit monitoring—steps taken as local institutions face similar threats.  WMTW
  • Maine State Police are asking for help finding Ralph Hughes—a 76-year-old man with cognitive issues who was last seen on Mason Drive in Hollis around 8 p.m. Saturday night.  FOX23
  • On June 11, a 16-year-old in state custody is accused of killing his foster father and cousin in Chelsea—sparking questions about Maine’s juvenile mental health system after his family’s concerns went unheeded.  Portland Press Herald

  • The Maine Supreme Judicial Court halted habeas corpus hearings, canceling the June 24 Bangor session and suspending the July 1 Lewiston proceeding as it reviews the state's emergency appeal over delayed attorney assignments — oral arguments are set for Oct. 7.  Portland Press Herald
  • Portland’s fire department welcomed eight new firefighters (certified after nine weeks of fire response and EMS training) at a graduation ceremony at a local high school last Friday. Their first shift begins today (marking the start of active duty), as the department integrates the new recruits into service.  WGAN
  • Maine domestic violence resource centers have frozen hiring and are short-staffed as federal grants—which make up as much as 85% of some budgets—face uncertain renewals and many are set to end on Sept. 30.
