- ➤ Robert Stolt, 22, of Augusta jumped from his 23-foot boat near Bath on Sunday to save his dog from the Kennebec River but has not been seen since, and a witness called 911 after spotting two people in the water near Lines Island while rescuers, who saved a female passenger and a second dog, resumed their search Monday at 5 a.m. Portland Press Herald
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ On July 3, American Airlines purchased 5,925 gallons of toxic firefighting foam concentrate for $250,000 from the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority at Brunswick Landing — a step taken to remove hazardous PFOS chemicals from the former Navy base. The sale proceeds will be used to clean the foam system in Hangar 5 and support new state policies requiring the removal and inventory of PFAS-laden foam by year-end. Portland Press Herald
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Maine State Police established a tip line Monday as detectives investigated the killing of Sunshine Stewart, a 48-year-old Tenants Harbor woman whose body was found after she went missing while paddleboarding last week in Union—authorities ask anyone who saw her on Crawford Pond between 6 and 9 p.m. Wednesday to report the sighting. Portland Press Herald
- ➤ Authorities arrested 64-year-old Randy Marcotte for chasing patrons with a hockey stick — officers also found knives, a hatchet, and nunchucks in his truck — after multiple calls reported the incident outside 7 Jackson's Corner Store on Alfred Road in Lyman Saturday, and he is held at York County Jail without bail. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Maine extended the non-emergency transportation agreement for another year so that Modivcare, Penquis and Waldo Community Action Partners continue providing medical rides until June 30 as Penquis appealed the decision awarding a full-state contract to Modivcare—the dispute remains in the Supreme Judicial Court. Portland Press Herald
- ➤ Scarborough Town Council raised beach parking and nonresident pass fees by replacing lower rate hours with a flat $20 daily rate and increasing Bayview Avenue meter rates from $1 to $5 per hour. Data showed fewer parking lot full days despite the fee hikes—raising concerns that these changes may limit local access and hurt community spending. Portland Press Herald
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Tick season in Maine peaks between May and July and again in October and November; most Lyme disease cases occur in June and July while American dog ticks remain active through August. The Maine CDC says ticks stay active when temperatures are above freezing — especially above 40°F — so caution is needed even during the summer. Portland Press Herald
