ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Water safety officials in Portland warned that rising boating accidents and drownings in Maine call for wearing life jackets and bright bathing suits as cold water in Casco Bay measured 58°F and recent fatalities—a 15-year-old boy in Hallowell and a man in Bath who drowned trying to save his dog—underscore the dangers.  WMTW

  • Ten protestors were arraigned at the Cumberland County courthouse on Thursday after being charged with obstructing a public way during a May protest that blocked Commercial St.—supporters gathered outside as some demonstrators joined the proceedings before entering.  WMTW
  • Maine State Police are investigating the homicide of 48-year-old Sunshine Stewart from Tenants Harbor whose body was found on July 3 after she was last seen paddleboarding on July 2 in Union—neighbors fear more violence in the area.  FOX23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Travelers at Portland International Jetport were allowed to keep their shoes on at security on Thursday after TSA updated a nearly 20-year-old rule using new technology. The change applies to domestic flights, though extra screening may still require some passengers to remove their shoes—ensuring safety without added hassle.  Portland Press Herald
  • Construction has begun to connect Maine’s 65-mile Eastern Trail through Scarborough as part of the project to add two bridges and extend the trail—a missing link between South Portland and Kittery. Phase I will be completed in October 2026 and Phase II, which adds bridges over the Nonesuch River and active railroad tracks, is set to finish in October 2027.  WGAN

  • On Thursday, Cole Anderson, a two-time Maine Amateur champion from Camden, caddied for his friend Kellen Adickes at Waterville Country Club and offered advice during the final round—he helped Adickes, who finished sixth overall and won the Junior division title.
