- ➤ Bangor Savings Bank said its Brighton Avenue branch in Portland was robbed Saturday — police have launched an investigation and the branch remained closed for the rest of that day with everyone safe. WGME
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday the Back Cove Music and Arts Festival at Payson Park drew about 12,000 people who enjoyed live music from local and national acts and a range of food trucks, with festivities lasting from noon to 10 p.m. Organizers said 70% of ticket sales were from locals and will work to address neighborhood concerns (ticket prices were about $120 per day). ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Eastern cottontail rabbits have been reported in Maine after first appearing in Kittery in 2017, with at least 25 sightings recorded since 2022—many around Portland. Wildlife officials are concerned that the non-native rabbits, marked by a white spot on their foreheads, may outcompete native species like the endangered New England cottontail.
