CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Florida police arrested 49-year-old James Clark at the Red Carpet Inn in South Daytona around 6:40 p.m. Friday—he is accused of killing Levern Kelley during a welfare check in Waldoboro on Aug. 9 and is now in custody awaiting extradition to Maine. WMTW
- ➤ Police said that Friday afternoon, Erin Hayne of Casco was fatally shot at the intersection of Route 302 and Landing Road when James Ford of Windham fired multiple rounds from a silver sedan and later took his own life — investigators reported no known connection between the two. - ➤ Portland police arrested 64-year-old Kenneth Morey Jr. after he robbed University Credit Union at 391 Forest Avenue by stealing $100 before fleeing and later charged him with robbery, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and theft as he was taken to Cumberland County Jail. WGAN
- ➤ James Clark, a 49-year-old from Damariscotta, was arrested in Florida on Friday evening at the Red Carpet Inn in South Daytona on murder charges in connection with Waldoboro woman Levern Kelley—he is now awaiting extradition to Maine. Portland Press Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Since early June, Scarborough Marsh has hosted a blue crab study where researchers set traps and test water to track the crabs as warming waters have changed local marine life—scientists like Steven Jury and Laura Crane lead the project to learn how these crabs might affect other species.
