- ➤ A Portland man, 27-year-old Declan Perry, was found dead in the parking lot of a Massachusetts hospital over the weekend – a residence 10 miles away was searched as authorities investigate his death and connection to an unidentified person of interest. WGAN
- ➤ Police identified Declan Perry, 27, of Portland as the man found dead on Saturday just after 2 p.m. in a black 2019 Honda Civic parked at South Shore Hospital—residents had reported seeing a man loading a heavy blanket into the car and investigators later recovered evidence including a bullet hole as the investigation continues. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Scientists say that great white sharks are moving north because more seals provide food—local experts note that beachgoers in Scarborough are safe for now. Researchers add that protection laws and rising seal numbers have led to longer stays and more frequent sightings in northern waters. FOX23
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Portland’s City Council voted Monday to require that the large 45,000-ton coal pile at the Sprague Energy terminal be covered by 2027 and removed by 2030—fines will be imposed if the owner fails to comply. The measure comes after local complaints about coal dust affecting nearby properties. Portland Press Herald
- ➤ Portland voters will decide on a measure to raise the city's minimum wage from $15.50 to $19 per hour by 2028 after a City Council vote of 5 to 4 on Monday night. If approved in November, wages will gradually rise—starting at $16.75 on Jan. 1 and increasing to $17.75 in 2027—with business owners warning of potential layoffs. Portland Press Herald
