Local runners and walkers gathered Saturday in Portland at the Tunnels to Towers 5K (a race honoring NY firefighter Stephan Siller and first responders from 9/11) where funds raised benefit the Tunnel to Towers Foundation for injured heroes and their families.

St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in Scarborough hosted its largest 5K race on Saturday to raise funds for the South Portland Food Cupboard, with 160 racers and a Free Kids Fun Run.

Race director Tige Cunningham said the funds will help feed about 400 families and support new projects.
