  • Maine Veterans Project provided combat veteran Robert Brown (from Naples) with a refurbished Ford Explorer (donated by Loreli Banister) to help him attend school and appointments; the project currently has a wait list of 20 veterans needing vehicles.  WGME

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities charged a man with murder after the body of 27 year old Declan Perry was found in a car near South Shore Hospital in Weymouth—42 year old Christopher Caron turned himself in on Saturday and will appear in court Tuesday.  FOX23
  • Bridgton police are searching for 13 year old Maliyah Leach—last seen Thursday in Bridgton wearing a black t-shirt with a half clown face and flared jeans while holding a white handbag—who is described as 5 ft 3 in with blue eyes and brown hair and is believed to be on foot.  FOX23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sen. Bernie Sanders endorsed Maine oyster farmer Graham Platner for the 2026 Senate race against Sen. Susan Collins as he said the nation faces high inequality — his failing healthcare system and widening wealth gap hurt working people. Sanders will hold a Labor Day rally in Portland where Platner and former state Sen. Troy Jackson will appear.  WMTW
  • A federal judge in Maine ordered the release of Edgar Vicente Bermeo Sicha, an Ecuadorian man flown to Texas after his July 28 arrest—finding his detention violated due process and requiring immigration officials to confirm his release by Sept. 3.  Portland Press Herald

  • Juan Chacon drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning to give the Sea Dogs a 4-3 win over the Yard Goats in Hartford Saturday night. Portland starting pitcher Blake Wehunt allowed one hit and one run through four innings — and relief pitchers helped secure the win.  Portland Press Herald
