  • Mainers will join the Greater Portland Out of the Darkness Walk to Fight Suicide on Sept. 27 at Fort Allen Park—check-in starts at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m. to support mental health awareness and suicide prevention.  FOX23

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Flagstaff Lake in Eustis, a 2024 Sea-Doo Switch recalled in February for instability flipped last weekend with seven people aboard—three women died, no one wore a life jacket, and rescue crews performed CPR as the crash is under investigation.  WGME
  • A Jeep crashed through the Maine Pines Racquet and Fitness building on Harpswell Road in Brunswick at 9:40 a.m., injuring two people when it smashed a wall, crossed four tennis courts, and flew through the lobby, causing witnesses to flee—while emergency crews took hours to remove the totaled vehicle and treat a customer hit by flying glass and a 72-year-old driver from Gray.  WMTW

CRIME NEWS

  • Maine State Police has asked the public for help finding 29-year-old Morgan Geyer and her 4-year-old son Logan Simard, who were last seen near a McDonald's on St. John Street around noon Friday — anyone with information should contact police.  FOX23
  • Portland chef Declan Perry, 27, who worked at The Grill Room & Bar since he was a teenager, was found dead outside a hospital in Massachusetts last month—police said he had injuries consistent with strangulation—while a Massachusetts man has been charged with his murder.  Portland Press Herald

  • Local director Harlan Baker will present the Depression-era play It Can’t Happen Here at the Maine Irish Heritage Center on September 12th and 13th. The play warns against fascism—drawing clear links to current events and featuring local actors in roles that echo early warnings of authoritarian rule.  West End News

  • Maine health officials expressed concern after Florida announced it would remove school vaccine mandates—Maine family physician Patrick Connolly warned that this change could risk children's health as local laws and a new app help maintain high immunization rates.  WMTW
