BUSINESS NEWS

  • Frontier Airlines ended flights to the Portland International Jetport because low demand and seasonality reduced ridership—an airline spokesperson said the carrier may restart service in the future. Last year, the airline resumed service to Philadelphia and added seasonal flights to Cincinnati.  WMTW

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Maine Outdoor Film Festival is touring Vacationland to show films from dozens of filmmakers at local venues. Festival director Nick Callanan said the selects tour will bring creative film experiences to communities statewide — a move that highlights fresh local engagement.  FOX23

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Maine’s minimum wage will rise to $15.10 an hour starting in January — the change also raises service employee wages to $7.55 and includes farm workers.  WGME

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Willard Beach still faces water quality issues after experts confirmed human fecal bacteria is contaminating the water from a drainage pipe on Angell Avenue—city officials are installing a new structure and rerouting the sewage line while they monitor the cleanup.  WGME
  • After 1,400 gallons of firefighting foam mixed with water spilled at Brunswick Executive Airport in August 2024, the EPA reached an agreement with the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority—ensuring all similar chemicals were removed and future measures will be taken to prevent another spill.  WGME

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Senator Stacy Brenner has supported policies to help Maine farmers and families by backing SNAP, Harvest Bucks, and local farmers’ markets—programs that aim to ease food insecurity amid federal cuts. She also co-sponsored legislation for property tax relief for farmers and formed a task force to lower costs for local residents.  Portland Press Herald
  • A parent was detained at Gerald E. Talbot Community School’s access road around 8 a.m. Thursday by law enforcement agents who did not identify themselves to school officials—Mayor Mark Dion said he believed the agents were likely federal and urged congressional leaders to look into the matter while Superintendent Ryan Scallon confirmed they were not from Portland police.  WMTW

  • Maine pitcher Cody Laweryson was called up by the Minnesota Twins from Triple-A St. Paul Saints and will make his major league debut as the first Mainer since Ryan Reid in 2013.
