- ➤ Brodie Hinckley resigned from the Maine Bureau of Emergency Communications on Oct 3 after Baxter—the first comfort dog for first responders—died in a state vehicle on a hot day when its air conditioning was off for over four hours; Hinckley was charged with animal cruelty in September and will appear in Bangor Court on November 6. - ➤ Portland City Council renewed the Back Cove Music & Arts Festival through 2028 so that it returns next summer—this decision follows the festival's successful run at Payson Park and supports free admission for children 12 and under. FOX23
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A report released Tuesday by the North Atlantic Right Whale Consortium showed that the endangered whales now number 384 worldwide, up eight from last year and including those near Maine.
