As helping professionals, we often spend much of our time tending to the needs and emotions of others. While this work can be deeply meaningful, the ongoing emotional demands of caring for and supporting the needs of others can contribute to chronic stress, overwhelm, and compassion fatigue. Developing intentional practices that support our own well-being is essential to sustaining ourselves in this meaningful work.

This workshop is an interactive, experiential workshop facilitated by a registered art therapist and a board-certified music therapist, that invites participants to explore creative expression as a pathway toward self-awareness, emotional regulation, and restoration. Participants are offered an opportunity to reconnect with curiosity, self-compassion, play, and different methods of creative expression. No previous experience with art or music is required. Participants will leave with practical creative self-care strategies that can be adapted to their individual needs and used to support their work with clients.

Objectives:

Those who complete the workshop will:

*Identify at least three signs of chronic stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue

*Describe at least two ways that creative expression can support emotional expression, regulation, self-awareness, and psychological well-being

*Personally experience several Expressive Wellness techniques to support self-care

*Identify therapeutic situations which are likely to respond well to the Expressive Wellness interventions
