About this event
The Department of Earth and Oceanographic Science is pleased to host this talk by Jeremy Brooks, Ph.D.
A window into glacial processes from measurements and models
From Dr. Brooks: "Glaciers and ice sheets are critical both to the geologic history and the future habitability of coastal Maine. However, unraveling the ways glaciers shape landscapes or contribute to future sea-level rise requires understanding the physical processes occurring underneath glaciers.
This research talk will focus on processes occurring at the base of glaciers that affect glacier motion and bedrock erosion.
Part 1 will focus on glacier flow velocity and its relevance to sea-level rise, including results derived from laboratory experiments and ice-flow models.
Part 2 will focus on the process of glacial erosion, including field measurements from southeastern Alaska.
