The annual Ride of Silence—honoring bicyclists, pedestrians and others killed on Maine roads—took place Wednesday night with the ride starting at 6:30 p.m. at CycleMania in Portland and continuing in Saco and Lewiston as organizers expected between 40 and 50 riders.
Several Maine towns will hold Memorial Day events on Monday with Biddeford hosting a ceremony at Waterhouse Field at 10 a.m. and Cape Elizabeth starting its parade at 8:30 a.m.—Topsham, Freeport, Lisbon Falls, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Westbrook, and Portland will also conduct parades and commemorations with planned route adjustments and brief street closures.

Casco Bay Lines announced that it will raise vehicle rates on Peaks Island starting June 21 due to uncertain federal funding — the increase varies by time of year and day of week, with noncommercial rates rising by about $10 to nearly $100 and pass holders paying between $46 and $82 — marking the first fare hike in over a decade.
